Analysis of Corporate Political Activity †Free Samples to Students

Question: Talk about the Analysis of Corporate Political Activity. Answer: Presentation: The investigation brings knowledge into the changing connection between the standard setter that is International bookkeeping standard sheets (IASB) and Australian bookkeeping standard board (AASB).Pronouncements gave by International bookkeeping standard sheets are fused in the Australian bookkeeping principles. Connection between the household standard setter and IASB is changing for building up progressively formal connection between the territorial and local gathering of standard setters that is move presently inspired by trustees and IASB (Carey et al., 2014). Unique vital model of IASB was for the most part produced for making solid relationship with key standard setters and in such manner, Australia was one of the key standard setters. Australia was at IASB gathering from the beginning of activities of IASB. AASB has the duty of giving and creating bookkeeping measures that are material to Australian substances alongside support and care of the assortment of norms. A key choice was given to the board to moving in the direction of those gave by International bookkeeping standard board. The Australian that is proportionate to IASB include bookkeeping principles that are identical to Australian measures. Some of them can be recorded as AASB 1-99 related to AASB 101-199. Besides, understandings that are given by AASB are relates to the translations that has been received by IASB. Without any IASB proportional, for example, measures like AASB 1039 and AASB 1031, the bookkeeping principles of AASB and IASB were held (He et al., 2016). The few issues were proposed by IASB. Procedure of distinguishing such issues by Australian bookkeeping standard is as per the following: Evaluation of proposition of issues by AASB is done against the models that such issues have pragmatic applicable and are across the board. Unique translations are noteworthy in such issues Decrease or disposal of techniques for different announcing would be diminished by improving money related revealing by method of tending to such issues. Such issue speaks to application issue and restricted execution that is conceivable to determine productively inside the current Australian bookkeeping gauges. Matter would be alluded to IASB dependent on progress and that will help them in arriving at agreement (Harmon Ntseh, 2016). It is required to give direction on opportune premise when the issues are identified with current and arranged AASB. On July, 2004 the AASB was made identical to IASB. Concerning this, AASB has acted as per vital bearing of budgetary announcing committee. The general methodology of AASB for receiving the IASB guidelines is embracing the working and substance of IASB. Needing receiving the earth of Australia enactment, words are being changed. It prompts incorporation of utilization section of Australia that is referenced in Corporation Act. Substances of prerequisite are not influenced by such changes. AASB has the duty of setting bookkeeping gauges for a wide range of announcing substances and IASB on other hand is basically centers around embracing principles revenue driven elements. When there is necessity for not revenue driven elements, there are extra messages that are remembered for the AASB. Prerequisites comparable to benefit elements are not affected by the expansion made to this norm. In specific situations, non-benefit elements that follow the Australian measures to IASB won't have the option to at the same time conform to the standard on the grounds that the extra prerequisites referenced in the AASB are not predictable with necessities of IASB (Steenkamp et al., 2016). A highest caliber of money related revealing is pointed by AASB in receiving the IASB measures. A portion of the discretionary medicines in IASB standard are utilized just barely any occasions by AASB. AASB as of now requires a portion of the extra exposures that are now and again required by IASB. For accomplishing consistence with measures of IASB, the limit of Australian substance isn't affected by evacuating the necessity of extra revelations and discretionary medicines. There are some useful critique referenced in AASB and this is absent in proportional IASB measures. Such discourses are viewed as helpful for clients of AASB standard and such critique isn't a piece of IASB standard. This aides in taking care of circumstances that are specific to and are experienced by Australian substances. For playing out the capacities comparable to principles of IASB, object of section 12 of Australian protections and venture commission act, 2001 are required. Appropriation of IASB should be steady with target section 12 coming about because of the comprehensive favorable position that is related with the reception of the equivalent (Spencer, 2014). A portion of the object of section 12 of Australian commission that should be engaged with the Australian gauges are as per the following: The executives ought to be helped with releasing commitments concerning money related revealing. It should help in encouraging the economy of Australia by lessening the necessary pace of return or cost of capital and appropriation of norms that are straightforward and are clear. Appropriation of norms ought to be pertinent for appraisal of money related execution, speculation and position. The gauges received by AASB is applicable to circumstance of condition of Australia in which substances work that especially manage non-benefit elements and doesn't have identical to IASB board. IASB Framework (passage 29 and 30) are steady with AASB 1031. System of IASB has been received by AASB and so as to guarantee that significance of materiality is succinct and clear, AASB 1031 has been held. Standard AASB 1039 is relevant to elements getting ready money related reports that has enlisted plans and sending succinct report to individuals rather than yearly report. Correction to AASB 1039 has been made coming about because of changes that has been declared because of appropriation of AASB standard (Morais Curto, 2014). IASB 126 arrangements with Accounting and announcing by Retirement benefits reserves. Household guidelines impacts the superannuation plan that are considered not revenue driven elements and as a piece of system of receiving IASB, AASB has not managed this specific reality. In this specific respect, AAS 25 Financial announcing by Superannuation plans would be held by AASB and a crucial audit of prerequisites would be attempted by standard. Prerequisite of AASB concerning superannuation plan is beaten other worldwide norm (Chandramohan et al., 2013). The AASB is related with predetermined number of bookkeeping strategies specific for little endeavor ventures and the suggestion is for the most part on change and likeness. Corrections to be made to the announcing norms specific to Australian little substances accompany various worries on proposition. Open responsibility definition-IASH has suggested that no explanation is required to be accommodated legal executive term utilized in open responsibility. This specific proposition of IASB isn't acknowledged by AASB and it calls for explaining the definition. Term contains some normal legitimate implying that is appeared to be not reliable with the manner in which Judiciary term is utilized by IASB. Area 29 of Income charge: It has been proposed by IASB that annual duty ought to be founded on segment 29 of IAS 12 to which AASB concurs. It is planned by IASB to lessen the detailing hole between open responsible elements and substances that are non-freely responsible. This would be finished by lining up with the standards of estimation and acknowledgment of conceded charge in segment 29 (Eisenschmidt Schmidt, 2016). A portion of different recommendations concerning the Australian elements are given. While the vast majority of the proposition of IASB was concurred by IASB because of explanation that are given in existing area and due to their insignificant nature. A portion of the worries of AASB in such manner are given underneath: Necessity for unveiling bookkeeping arrangements as far as end advantages ought to be expelled. Other concern is identified with excluding the impalpable resources necessities in business mix in occasion when it is beyond the realm of imagination to expect to quantify reasonable incentive without thinking about undue expenses or endeavors. Obtaining of auxiliaries comparable to removal or with the aim of offer inside one year and its explanation and should be prohibited from combination. Norms made by IASB for little Australian substances are recognized by AASB and they have the independent vision. It has been considered by AASB that all together for little elements in Australia to profit the advantages, they should exploit improvement made to the norm. There was difference on part of Australian bookkeeping standard board on part of proposition of IASB identifying with correction made in commitment of offer of benefits between joint endeavor and financial specialists in IAS 28. This is so on the grounds that it is thought by board that such alteration helps in lessening decent variety practically speaking and addresses the current irregularity between prerequisite of IAS 28 and money related announcing standard 10. The board proceeded with proposition by IASB and board ought to speed up the value strategy for bookkeeping research (Bond et al., 2016). Explicit cases portraying in the case of bookkeeping standard should change or not as suggest by IASB: Revision made by IASB to AASB 116 would deny deducting cost of property, hardware and plant from the returns of selling things. Continues from deals of benefit would be perceived as misfortune or benefit. According to the revision, Australian substances ought to perceive deals from continues regarding misfortune or benefit. Organization bookkeeping would be decidedly affected as this will help in decreasing the decent variety hole in a way that will help improving money related detailing of announcing elements. Essay Writing Basics - 4 Easy Tips For Writing Your Essay

Essay Writing Basics - 4 Easy Tips For Writing Your EssayThe essay is a great tool in the college student's arsenal when it comes to essay writing. The opportunity to express oneself in such a way and to truly think about the ideas that are behind their essay has been replaced by the student's reliance on a computer to compile the answers for them. While it is great that the essay is no longer dependent on a person's creativity and attention to detail, there are still some areas that they should remember when it comes to their own essay. The first thing to remember is that while the essay is a great way to start off a college education, it is not going to be the end all of writing an essay. Writing an essay can be just as easy as taking an exam, as long as the student has written their essay well and has focused on the information that they have written. There is no need to panic if they did not get the grade they wanted, but if they simply do not enjoy writing, then they need to find a different method of expression. The other thing to remember is that the best essays are often the ones that focus on what the person would do with their education. This could mean learning a new skill, which can help the person in a lot of ways. It could also mean not only getting a skill, but making sure that they are able to learn how to use it and make it work for them. Also, a person should take the time to study the proper way to write an essay, especially if they are new to the process. The rules of grammar and punctuation are not going to change when writing an essay for a college level class. The same rules are going to apply when the person is writing a college-level essay, but in a slightly different way. This means that the person should look over a few books and maybe even go online to do a little extra research.Of course, if a person wants to be able to do their own writing, then they should start by doing research. They should check out how to write an essay at a scho ol level, as well as see what professors and teachers are saying about what writing an essay entails. Doing so can really help to ensure that they can become better writers than they are right now.The next thing to consider is that it is always a good idea to write an essay that is more about what they would do rather than what they would do. This means that the person should spend a little bit of time thinking about what skills they might want to use after they graduate. They might want to teach, or they might want to work with people who need to learn the skills of writing an essay. Also, this means that the person will need to look at their writing skills, as this is a skill that they will need for anything else they want to do. While the writing is still a skill, it should not be the only skill that they are working on. The ability to write an essay means that the person can write for any situation, so this means that they should pay close attention to how they write for their au dience. No matter what the topic is, it does not matter how many different subject areas the person can write about, as long as they can show some skill. This means that they should really take the time to read as much as they can about what they should do and what they should write about. Reading and learning is a great way to not only become a better writer, but also a better person.

In China, apart from the Communist Party of China, there are eight different political parties called democratic parties, which were mostly founded during the anti-Japanese war and the national liberation war (crienglish.com, 2014). These parties, however, do not involve with ruling party in China, but rather only participate in the discussion and administration of the State affairs. In the contrary to how China claims to have its own democracy version, there is a government hierarchy of executive power in China, in which the authoritarians have justified their centralization of power as a way to secure their countries from collapse. (Green Luehrmann, 2011, p. 339) In other word, such government is described as â€Å"personalist regimes†, which means that there is such a consolidation of power in the hands of on e individual that this leader comes to personify the nation (Green Luehrmann, 2011, p. 340). Sugary Beverages and Junk Foods are Causing Obesity in Mexico

According to Agricultural Organization and UN Food, Mexico’s adult obesity rates are above that of the United States, with an obesity rate of 32.8% compared to the 31.8%. Junk food and sugary drinks have caused these rate to rise, which makes them negative externalities of consumption, which the private benefits to consumers of a good are greater than the social benefits of its consumption, in other words the good creates spillover costs on a third party. A tax, payment made by an individual or a firm to the government, has been imposed by the Mexican government to eliminate such negative externalities. The tax is expected to decrease demand for the good. The Cross price elasticity, the measure of the responsiveness of consumers of one†¦show more content†¦A tax on these goods decreases the supply to S+tax, which drives up the price of the good. Those who consume these goods now witness increased prices at Pso. Due to the law of demand its expected to see a lower quan tity of these goods consumed. Fast food goods, although have a steep demand curve meaning demand is very price inelastic, an increases in prices for the good won’t receive much of a response but if the government is to impose a tax such that it greatly increases the price of fast foods to gap that of healthier food, then we can begin to see some response from consumers. The equilibrium quantity, therefore falls closer to the social optimum (Qso). However, we witness decreased consumer surplus from A+B+C+D to A and decreased producer surplus from E+G+F to B. The corrective tax, imposed on fast food and sugary beverages has in fact eliminated the externalities, which corrects the overallocation of resources. In the case where the tax imposed had made the prices for fast foods greater than that of healthier food then these goods would have a positive cross price elasticity. For example, if there is an increase in the price for fast food by 10% and quantity demanded for healthier food increases by 2% then XED = +0.2, and because this is a positive number we can see that they are substitutes. In the diagram to the left we witness that these goods are cross price elastic. Rappaccinis Daughter Essays (1280 words) - Rappaccinis Daughter

Rappaccinis Daughter In Rappaccini's Daughter, Nathaniel Hawthorne examines the combination of good and evil in people through the relationships of the story's main characters. The lovely and yet poisonous Beatrice, the daughter of the scientist Rappaccini, is the central figure of the story, while her neighbor Giovanni becomes the observer, participant, and interpreter of the strange events that transpire within the garden next door. It is Giovanni's inability to understand these events that eventually leads to Beatrice's death. Giovanni sees things that are either all good or all bad. While he is quick to judge Beatrice, he is unable to examine his own motives and thoughts. During the story, Hawthorne gives the reader many clues of Giovanni's selfish and fickle nature. In the end, Beatrice dies because of Giovanni and his own poisonous nature. The moral of the story is that every persons character is both good and evil in nature. Nathaniel Hawthorne uses Giovanni and Beatrice to explore the impossibility of totally separating good and evil from the human character. At the beginning of the story, a young man named Giovanni Guasconti is introduced to the readers as a typical homesick student from Southern Italy. He is at once attracted to the beautiful garden next door belonging to the mysterious scientist, Dr. Rappaccini. Not only is he fascinated by the scientist and his garden, but he is instantly enchanted by Rappaccini's beautiful daughter, Beatrice. The second time Giovanni sees Beatrice from his window overlooking the garden, he notices several unusual things. First, he believes that he sees a lizard die suddenly at Beatrice's feet. Then a swarm of insects appear to die from her breath, and finally, the flowers that he gives to her seem to wither from her touch. However, Hawthorne is careful to never fully confirm what Giovanni sees. Hawthorne frequently uses words like imagine, seemed, or appeared to to cast a doubt upon the validity of what Giovanni thinks he sees. Even Giovanni himself rationalizes the situation and convinces himself th at what he thought he saw did not happen. This is because in Giovanni's mind, it is impossible to separate the physical from the spiritual. For him, if Beatrice's body is poisonous, then so is her spirit. Giovanni is unable to see the possibilities for good and bad to be simultaneously within someone. This problem is at the heart of this story and is what ultimately causes Beatrice's death. Since Giovanni allows himself to disbelieve what he had seen earlier in the garden, he is able to fall for Beatrice. Giovanni is drawn to Beatrice not because of the glamor of science, but an interest in the unknown. He knows that all is not right in Rappaccini's garden and he is fascinated with the mystery. As Giovanni and Beatrice get to know each other, they develop a strong bond. However, for Giovanni this is not true love. Hawthorne provides the reader with clues that question the integrity of Giovanni. For example, Hawthorne writes, Guasconti had not a deep heart or at all events, its depth s are not sounded now-but he had a quick fancy, and an ardent southern temperament, which rose every instant to higher fever-pitch (Hawthorne 614). Not only is Giovanni passionate in his lust for Beatrice, but he also idealizes her as an angel. While he finds her to be maiden-like, he also considers her worthy to be worshipped (Hawthorne 619). Occasionally, Giovanni's doubts come forth, And at such times, he was startled at the horrible suspicions that rose, monster-like, out of the caverns of his heart, and stared him in the face; his love grew thin and faint as the morning-mist; his doubts alone had substance (Hawthorne 620). But always, Giovanni is able to squash these doubts and he convinces himself of Beatrice's purity. He is able to do this because otherwise he could not be with her. Human Resources in Business - Essay Example Tests are generally perceived as a fairer to the selection decisions, because they judge everyone on the same basis, rather than being based on exams and results taken years ago at university institutions. When a candidate has completed a psychometric test, had passed a solid behavioral interview and personality profile and has been through a role play presentation with the recruiter, the human resources have covered all basic ground they need in order to make a reasonable decision about who to offer the position. They are cost-beneficial in the long term, because are relatively cheap and easy to supervise, because the answered are not monitored by correct answers. However, providing feedback can be tedious sometimes, because it requires concentration and evaluation, which takes more time. Standardized tests can often be subjective, because different people view differently test questions. Interpreting the question depends to a greater degree on the cultural and educational background, on its family values and personal attitude. Also results in assessing candidates could be different depending on the evaluator. This is so, because when answering the test questions, the candidates might be affected by their current moods, or being under stress, so the standartization of the tests might not answays interpret the results in favour of the candidates. Respondents can intentionally project and portray themselves in a light very different if they had a face to face interview. Some of the people can respond to the questions in a way that is not genuine, implies self-promotion and deliberately leaves wrong impression to the recruiter. There is a certain risk involved for the candidates when they have to engage themselves in lengthy tests, before they have the opportunity to first discuss their role and job position with the recruiter. Overtiredness and loss of time, if the

William Shakespeares Julius Caesar Essay Example for Free

William Shakespeares Julius Caesar Essay Julius Caesar shows that people respond to power and glory in different ways. Discuss. William Shakespeares Julius Caesar has a strong focus on the response that various characters display to power and glory, and how and why this response may vary between them. Shakespeare shows contrast in response to superiority heavily throughout the text, and explains that peoples retaliation to it will always differ. Where focus for some, lies in the attainment and holding of power, others prefer a view of conserving Romes traditional government system. Contrast is seen strongly in characters views of Caesars death, and also in their opinions of the preceding events and Caesars gain of power. Despite these differing factors, all characters are portrayed to have some kind of lust for power, and intention to gain authority over citizens. These qualities are seen most strongly across the protagonists of the story: Caesar, Brutus, Cassius and Antony. Throughout the text, characters claim to oppose Caesars rule for the pure reason of conserving the traditions of Romes government and heritage, but some developments strongly suggest the ulterior motive of desire for power. The idea of [Romes] wide walk [encompassing] but only one man is daunting to Cassius, and he particularly portrays this throughout the play, joined by Brutus, claiming that the assassination of Caesar brings them peace, freedom and liberty. However, opposing this, Cassius states that he was born as free as Caesar and thus is equally deserving of power, implying envy or resent toward the omnipotence Caesar achieves. Brutus stands by his intention, emphatically signifying his part with the conspirators was not that [he] loved Caesar less, but that [he] loved Rome more. Brutus feels as though Caesars leadership would negatively impact Rome and the good that Roman citizens have achieved. In contrast, Caesar and Antony both claim that Caesars rule would be positive for Rome. Antony, as a strong supporter, stands by Caesar and claims that Caesar does have love for Rome, and would never have put the fate of Rome in danger. Although he states this verbally much later in the play, this is seen through Antony presenting the crown to Caesar upon his return to Rome from defeating Pompey. Caesar himself believes that he is worthy to rule Rome, and wants to gain the trust and support of the Roman citizens. He begins to do this by rejecting the crown when offered it, knowing that many people would be unhappy with the  acceptance of the crown, and the subsequent ending of the Republic, however it is evident that his intentions may change. When told to attend the Senate as the crown is going to be offered to him again, Caesar eagerly takes this opportunity, implying his desire. Although he is for the good of Rome, he still has intention to go against the system of government in place for omnipotence. Upon Caesars assassination, the opinions of many characters is shown to vary strongly, and this becomes increasingly evident as the text continues. Antony instantly ridicules the reasoning of the assassination, saying that he was not ambitious in the sense of gaining supremacy, as he was thrice presenteda kingly crown and he did thrice refuse, posing his said ambition to be questionable. This is a sign of his tranquility toward power and those who have acquired it, contrasting with Cassius, who feels it is unruly for Caesar to bestride the narrow world as the sole leader of Rome, and sees that this is fair reason for Caesars assassination. Cassius here appears to have desire for power, and to use Toward the conclusion of the text, upon taking their own lives, both Cassius and Brutus formally verbalise their views of their intentions in Caesars assassination, but they also have differing responses to what they have done. While Brutus seems to show regret over killing Caesar, Cassius seems bitter about Caesars death, with the claim that Caesar was revenged by Cassius suicide, as if to entitle him with the blame for his death. Brutus seems regretful, as he states that Caesar was killed with half so good a will than himself, saying that he is more deserving of death, and bidding Caesar to be still in his death. The protagonists views on the assassination drive forward the strong ambition they show to attain power themselves, and their feelings toward those who are in power. Opinions of Caesars success are heavily contrasted between the storys protagonists to emphasise how they see glory and fame, particularly comparing Antony and Cassius. Their views oppose each other, with Antony strongly supporting the success and rise of Caesar, where Brutus claims that Romans as underlings should be striving to go against Caesars reign, and change the way Caesar is leading. Antony focuses strongly on Caesars  leadership as a positive part of Romes society, and the love Caesar displays to the people. He signifies this by thrice [presenting Caesar] a kingly crown, and telling the people of Rome of Caesars great feats. Although the main contrast lies here, both Brutus and Caesar himself have their own opinions, both of which somewhat contrast with the views of Antony and Cassius. Brutus responds to Caesars reign by questioning Caesars character, and pondering the idea that Caesars crowning might change his nature, implying that he may become a worse person because of it. Caesar himself has a positive response to his gain of power, but soon it seems as though power soon goes to his head, and he begins to make rash decisions that regard the people of Rome more harshly. Each protagonist has a different approach to Caesars reign, and each character responds to his rise in their own individual manner. The segregation of opinions in regards to power and glory is contrasted in itself by each characters shared desire for power. This element of the text is seen at some times more strongly than others, as characters portray their emotions through private and public thoughts differently, and express more in what they think privately. Cassius, although seemingly for the good of Rome is described by Caesar to [have] a mean and hungry look, implying that he has desire for power, which is also seen through the implication of his bitterness and envy of Caesar when he claims that he was born as free as [him]. Brutus is probably the least power hungry of characters, although he still does desire power and fortune, as he claims he would not have it so with Caesar a ruler, yet he still [loves] him well. Antony seems to want the attention and respect of people in the assembly of Roman citizens more than legitimate power over them, and uses his public speaking and persuasive skills to achieve this, with his repetition of the phrase: Brutus is an honourable man to condescend and degrade him. Caesar is the most power hungry of them all, although does not seem it in his rejection of the crown. He wants men about [him] who are fat in the sense of knowledge, and content with the power they have, as he does not want anyone stealing his power from him. Each protagonist shares this lust for glory and prestige, and each in a sense gains some triumph throughout the text. Although there is a shared desire to obtain and hold power, the characters Shakespeare portrays in Julius Caesar depict the differing responses that many characters can have to the power they have, or the power those around them have emphatically. They may share some aspects of their reactions, or portray it in a similar sense, but overall, the characters views and opinions vary heavily throughout the text. Each aspect of the response characters have is seen in all four, but in each it opposes, as seen through the choices and reflections that characters portray.

beet lab :: essays research papers

MATERIAL AND METHODS Stability of cell membrane using pH For the lab experiment for testing the stability of beet cell membranes using pH, many materials were used as follows. Obtaining a beet we punch out cores, using a cork borer. After washing the cores we put each one inside a separate test tube, and added a different pH solution in each one. After 3 minutes in these exposure solutions, we took the beet out with a dissecting needle. Then transferred each beet to a separate test tube containing deionized water. After 20 minutes in these diffusion solutions, we took the beets out with a dissecting needle and discard it. We then stirred each solution in the test tube with a stirring rod, and transferred it to a cuvette. A spectrophotometer was then calibrated, and used to measure the absorbance of each exposure solution, and diffusion solution. Membrane Damage For the lab experiment for Membrane Damage, we tested the extract pigment and diluted it. When the pH solutions are added, this will cause it to be in a range of absorbance. We used materials as follows. Obtaining a beet we proceeded to cut small individual cubes. We then rinse each cube to remove any damaged pigments with deionized water. Using a blender, we blend the beets with 15 mL of pH 7 DI water. After blending we used cheesecloth to separate the liquid from the solids for easier centrifuge process. Then we put the liquid beet into a centrifuge tube and centrifuge it for 5 minutes at 2500 rpm. We then remove the supernatant into a beaker, and discarded the sediment. Using a 1:4 ratio mixture of the supernatant and deionized water, we made a stock solution. We then tested the stock solution’s absorbance with a spectrophotometer, and place 1 mL of the solution into separate test tubes. Next we added an additional 4 mL of pH solutions in the 2-11 range into each test tube. After mixing, we tested the absorbance for each solution using a spectrophotometer. Mixing the Diffusion and Exposure Solution For the lab experiment of mixing the diffusion and exposure solution, we are going to test if the pigment is released in the exposure solution. We used materials as follows: Obtaining a beet, we punched out 2 cm long beets using a cork borer. Then we wash the beets in running water, after that we prepared 10 test tubes each containing different pH solution.

Group Observation Essay

The group I observed was a teen dating violence prevention group. It was held at A High School. The purpose of this group was to educate adolescents about domestic violence. The facilitator’s goal was to teach the adolescents about healthy relationships, unhealthy relationships, types of abuses, various red flags of an abuser, and provide important resources for those who may be going through a domestic violence relationship. In the group, there were about ten members. They were all males and sophomores in high school. Their age ranged from 15 to 17 years old. The population in the group was primarily Hispanics. The group was held in a classroom during 5th period, which lasts about 50 minutes. Every Tuesdays, two facilitators from X Agency would go to the high school and teach two different class sessions. One facilitator would take all the females in one room and the other facilitator would take the males in another room. In the male group that I observed, the teacher was always present in the classroom. This was the facilitator’s first session with a new group of students. The facilitator, Kim, first started off introducing herself to the class. She spoke briefly about the types of services that were provided at X Agency. She discussed about the different topics that the students would be learning throughout the 8-week session in the program. Then, Kim asked the group if they had any rules that should be applied within the group. Many students were very responsive to Kim’s question. She then talked a little bit about confidentiality. She discussed about how everything the group talked about stays within the group, unless the person disclosed that he or she was going to hurt someone, someone was hurting him or her, or he or she is being abused. Kim told the students that she would be mandated to report those three things. Kim did an activity with the students where the students would have to come up with a food name that had the same letter as their first name. Kim brought in a variety of colored paper and the students were to choose one colored paper of their choice. On the paper, the students were to write their food names along with their real name and draw some things that represented themselves. Kim walked around the room and created conversations with some of the students. Some of the students were unable to come up with a food name. When this happened, Kim would ask the student what his name was and then ask the rest of the class for any ideas. The students were very approachable and helpful. This activity took about 20 minutes. Everyone participated in the activity and seemed to really enjoy it. After the students were finished with their project, they had to tape it on a large butcher paper that was placed on the chalkboard. Kim explained to the students that the reason she wanted them to come up with a food name was because it would be easier for her to remember their names. After that activity, Kim asked the group some questions about what they would like to learn during these sessions. She wanted to know some of the things that the students would be interested in or may have learned already. She told the students that this group was all about them, and she would do the best she can to take in their ideas. Some of the students asked if they could talk more about girls and understanding some of the traits girls have. Kim had a question box, where students would write down any questions, ideas, thoughts, or comments they have that sometimes they may feel uncomfortable saying in front of the group. It would be completely anonymous, and the facilitator would normally discuss about it the following week. Afterwards, it was time for the students to go to their next class. Kim had all the students drop in their index cards for the question box. Throughout my observation, I felt that the facilitator’s leadership style was in between authoritarian style and democratic style. In the beginning of the session, Kim’s leadership style was more authoritarian because she was discussing about the program and the agency. I noticed that when other people were talking, she would stop talking and asked the students if they wanted to share something to the class. Other times, if other students were talking amongst themselves, Kim would stop and let them know that she was not going to talk over them. As the session went on, Kim started to have more of a democratic style. She already had a whole agenda planned out for the session. After going over the classroom rules, she started becoming more interactive with the students. Within the group members, I’ve noticed that there were subgroups in the classroom. There would be a group of friends who would be having conversations with each other. Some other students were quieter and did what was told. Some of the members would shout out comments, and other members would start laughing. Some of the strengths of the group was that overall, it seemed like everyone got along. Also, since all the group members were male, they probably felt more comfortable talking about certain topics and issues. Another strength was that these students were already familiar with each other, since they were in the same class. Most of them seemed to be very interactive with each other. The area the group needs to improve on is learning how to have side conversations with their friends. Even though the group is for the students, the students should learn and respect others who are talking. They could try to have fewer interruptions while others are speaking. The facilitator’s strength was that she had everything planned out. She went with her agenda and everything seemed to flow smoothly for the most part. When the students were doing the food activity, the facilitator was very engaging with the students. She showed a lot of interest with what the students had to say. She also did a lot of active listening when the students gave her some suggestions and ideas. An area that might need improvement is the way she talks to the students. Sometimes I felt that she sounded more of a teacher rather than understanding the group members. Since there was a teacher already in the classroom, maybe the teacher should be responsible for the disciplinary and not the facilitator. My concerns for this group is that some of the group members may have taken a similar program before and might end up being disruptive to the rest of the members. Most of the students seem to know a lot about domestic violence, and they may feel that the program is useless to them. I thought it was a great idea for the facilitator to ask the group members about what sort of things they would want to discuss about in the program. The facilitator acknowledged the group members’ thoughts and ideas, which I thought was very important. Group work seems to be more effective than individual work in certain ways. In one study, a researcher wanted to find out about the creativity between small groups and individuals (Moore, 2000). He had small groups working together and individuals working alone. Within the study, groups and individuals were given the same two paintings to examine. They were also given a questionnaire, which had questions about the paintings. The researcher wanted to see which one would produce more ideas and creativity for the paintings. Results showed that the groups came up with more ideas and details about the paintings than the individuals. Since there were more people in the group, more brainstorming were involved (Moore, 2000). Martell and Borg conducted a study on individuals versus groups on behavioral rating accuracy (1993). Researchers were interested in seeing if groups working together would remember more than individuals do. The groups had an advantage over the individuals because more members were involved, which means they can compare notes. Also, another advantage for doing group work was critically analyzing a situation, and in this case, a behavior. Results indicated that the groups had a higher accuracy in answering the questions than the individuals. The main reason was because the group members were able to discuss about it and compare their thoughts, whereas an individual only had one idea (Martell & Borg, 1993). These are one of the great benefits of group work. More ideas would be brought upon and could also have other people think about a certain idea or situation in a different way.

Terrorism is not a derogatory moral classification; rather, it is a mode of warfare. Terrorism is a tactic, yet it is a term used derogatorily to describe a certain group of people because of events in the recent past. Because of a sweeping generalizations about those that commit act of terrorism, terrorism has been turned into a â€Å"dirty† word to describe people, instead of the act that the word actually defines. Why do people decide to use terrorism as a derogatory moral classification? What causes them to, and how do historical events explain how this term became what it is today, an error of racial stereotyping, and why is it so important that people realize this mistake?
